Earthly wisdom from a houseman who's almost completing the 2 year housemanship

1.JOGGING ( My personal fav, other then being healthy,it clears the mind especially after a hard day with your patient's,their relatives(some 1st yr medical student that conveniently forget she's in a gov hosp, thinks of u as her personal slave)

2.Best time to exercise is when your post call - so that you wont feel guilty sleeping the whole day through

3.EAT - contrary to what we think,we should eat,i don't believe those who say they're so busy they cant find the time, once in awhile i understand, but you really have to find time, nobody saying a 3course meal, but it's better to just grab a bite.So stop being hypocrite - start eating it's good for you

4.Study when you can - There's always not enough time, too tired. But studying is really important. If we just work daily,we're really not improving ourself. The number of doctor's are increasing, the reality is competition is stronger so it's wise to read a bit.

5.Read the news - Please know what's going on around you,do not be a ignaramous

6.Take a break - you will need it

7.When u feel what the hell are u doing, working 36hours,not getting paid enough, not appreciated....just think u helped save a life,it could have been your father, mother, siblings or grandmother( it helped me )

Housemanship isnt as bad as it sounds, not like 10years back....learn as much before we become responsible for all our actions, and there's no MO/Specialist to back you up.

  8. hi i would say housemanship is tough anywhere basically because it's actually another 2yrs of learning,it realy depends on you,if you can survive on your own, you're eager to learn and you don't complain and just take things as it comes by positively i think your in the right track.medical profession is tough, but it requires a lot of passion,i see my own friends complaining about work, housemanship, other things,it's a never ending cycle.I'l always say i'm very thankful that i did my housemanship here, with my batch of friends.and yes i learnt a lot,and as an MO now i'm still learning a lot.I guess tht's my advice for you,i'm sure you'l make the right choice:)

  9. Hey there Sang.. i'm a med student tht will graduate in june. i'm from somewhr near sibu so i'm thinkg mb i'll work thr in sibu hosp.
    i hv some questions;

is the shift system already started in sibu? my friend started working in miri hosp in dec and said shift system haven't been applied thr yet.

if thr's already shift system thr in sibu, can u explain more about it? i mean how many shifts per weeks etc..

how much time a HO works per day? do we get to hv day offs?

my house is approx. an hour away from the hosp, so i dunno whether i need to stay in quarters or is it possible to just travel from home (it's in bintangor so its kinda troublesome to travel especially at night or early in the morning).

How many HOs are thr per department?

that's all. hope it will not trouble u to answer all tht for the curious me.
    thanks.

    =)

  10. Hi eiffa sorry for the late reply.yup it'l be great for you if u wanted to apply for sibu, there is a bit of a shortage because of the shift system, but u do get days off and i think there's lots to learn from here,it'l be better if u come in a group as well.

think you'l know more when u actually come here, the shift is diff for different departments so bit difficult to explain.think it would be better for u to stay in the quarters for the time being as well, bit dangerous to drive daily, but if ur comfortable then i guess it's alright.if u want to know more mail me at sang_8@yahoo.com ,i'l tell u more k.all the best:)

  11. i Really want to go to sarawak.. for my housemanship..this year.. i will be finishing on February, and my interview is in another 3 days or so.. is it easy to bring your transport from Semenanjung to Sarawak, how much does it cost? and it is easy to get the quarters for housemanship there? because i will be going alone and i'm a woman so lots of my relative and friends are against my decision.. i'm not an excellent student, but i would like to learn more in Kuching General hospital.. Do you think it easy to make friends and adapting life there? the customs and language?
